These are just a small sample of the books that have been published that include detailed information on TAPI and related Windows API's. Listing them here in no way implies any relationship between myself an the authors of these books. If you have any suggestions for other books to list here please let me know. If you do decide to purchase one of these books please consider ordering them through this web page. I get a (very small) commission that gives me more incentive to keep maintaining this FAQ.

Chris is a former employee of Intel who worked closely on TAPI when it was still in its infancy and has now written a very good book about it. As he worked with TAPI over the past few years he developed a high level framework to encapsulate much of the TAPI functionality into a nice small package. He provides this framework with his book, along with a great deal of useful information on how to use it and how to work with TAPI in general. This is also one of the few books available that discusses writing TSP's as well as applications. I was honored to have been asked to review this book for technical content prior to its publication and found it very well written.

Although this book does not discuss TAPI, it does provide a great deal of useful information for people who want to write TAPI applications in Visual Basic. It explains how to create callback functions within VB, which is one of the ways TAPI returns asynchronous information, and also goes into great detail in programming the windows multimedia API, which is what TAPI uses to play & record voice messages.

Although this book does not discuss TAPI, it does provide a great deal of useful
information for working with fax modems. The first part of this book gives a basic
grounding in fax modem technology to both the novice and experienced user. It explains why
fax machines are easy to set up and then work every time, but computer faxes are tricky to
install and often fail to work reliably. The second part is a complete reference for
technical users. From the computer hardware and system software on your desk through the
modem itself to the international standards set by ANSI, the CCITT and ITU, this section
brings all the relevant technical documentation together in one place. Part three shows
how easy it is to write your own fax software. Full code is presented and developed for
turning ordinary text into fax images and then transmitting
them, as well as for receiving faxes and displaying them on screen or printing them out. A
disk with full source code and many associated utilities is included.
